Ingredients

  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • ½ cup extra granulated sugar for rolling

Method

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  2. Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Mix in egg, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
  4. Combine: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until a dough forms.
  5. Chill Dough: Cover and refrigerate dough for at least 1 hour to help cookies keep their shape.
  6. Preheat & Shape: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll chilled dough into balls (about 1 tablespoon each), then roll in sugar.
  7. Bake: Place on parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 9–11 minutes, until edges are set but centers look slightly soft.
  8. Cool: Let cookies rest on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar on top before baking.
  • Don’t overbake—cookies should look slightly underdone in the center for the perfect chewy texture.
