Ingredients

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup M&M candies plus extra for topping

Method

  1. In a large bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix just until combined.
  5. Fold in the M&M candies, reserving a few for topping.
  6. Chill the dough for 30 minutes for thicker cookies.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  8. Scoop dough onto the baking sheet, spacing cookies apart. Press extra M&M’s on top.
  9. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set and centers look slightly soft.
  10. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Do not overbake; cookies will firm up as they cool.
  • Chilling the dough helps prevent spreading and enhances flavor.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze dough balls for fresh baking later.
  • Mini or peanut M&M’s can be used as variations.
