Ingredients

  • 1 cup 2 sticks unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips reserve some for topping

Method

  1. Preheat & Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease.
  2. Cream Butter & Sugars: In a large bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).
  3. Add Wet Ingredients: Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract. Mix until combined.
  4. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in chocolate chips, reserving a small handful for the top.
  6. Spread & Bake: Spread dough evenly into the prepared pan. Sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top. Bake for 22–28 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs.
  7. Cool & Slice: Let bars cool fully in the pan. Lift out using parchment and slice into squares or rectangles.

Notes

  • For extra chewiness, slightly underbake the bars — they’ll continue cooking as they cool.
  • Add a pinch of flaky sea salt on top after baking for a flavor boost.
  • These bars freeze beautifully — wrap individually and freeze up to 3 months.
  • Feel free to customize with nuts, white chocolate, or caramel swirls.
