Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter cubed
  • ¾ cup milk or buttermilk

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add cold butter and cut it into the flour until the mixture looks crumbly with pea-sized pieces.
  4. Pour in milk and gently mix just until the dough comes together.
  5. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat to about ¾-inch thickness.
  6. Cut biscuits using a round cutter and place them close together on the baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until tops are lightly golden.
  8. Serve warm, brushed with melted butter if desired.

Notes

  • Keep butter cold for flaky layers.
  • Do not overmix the dough—this keeps biscuits tender.
  • Biscuits can be frozen before baking and baked straight from the freezer.
